Privacy Policy

The short version

The SummitPeek app has no accounts, ads, analytics, or tracking. Your location, camera, and motion data are used on your device to label the peaks you see, and are never sent to the developer or anyone else. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose to share it.

What the app uses, and why

• Location (while using the app) finds the peaks you can see and how far away they are. It isn't stored or sent anywhere.
• Camera shows the live view the labels are drawn over, and takes labeled photos when you tap the camera button. Nothing is recorded or sent unless you share a photo.
• Motion sensors and compass tell SummitPeek which way the phone is pointing. This data isn't stored or sent.

Every peak is stored in the app, so SummitPeek doesn't look up peaks on a server.

What you can choose to share

These only happen when you tap a button, and they go only where you send them from the share sheet:

• Labeled photos: the photo you took, with peak labels on it.
• Share on a peak: the peak's name, its altitude, and an Apple Maps link to the summit. Nothing about your location is included.
• Send Diagnostics: crash and hang reports that iOS saved for SummitPeek. They describe what the app was doing when it failed, and don't include your location. The developer uses them only to fix bugs.

Apple services

A peak's detail card shows a map of the summit from Apple Maps, and Show in Maps opens the peak in the Maps app. The map is centered on the peak, not on you. Apple Maps is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

If you turn on Share with App Developers in the iPhone Settings app, under Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share crash data and usage statistics with the developer. That is Apple's setting, and you can turn it off at any time.

Third parties

The SummitPeek app includes no third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking code.

This website

summitpeek.com uses Google Analytics to count visits, see how people find the site, and measure App Store button clicks. Google Analytics uses cookies, and Google handles this data under Google's privacy policy. You can opt out with a content blocker or Google's opt-out browser add-on.

When you send a message through the contact form, your name, email address, and message are delivered through Formspree and used only to reply to you.

Children

SummitPeek doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
